Make Your Talent Brand Accessible

Boom!  With one tap of the finger Ellen made headlines this week with the Oscars selfie that broke Twitter records.  Probably the most epic moment  in Oscars history. The Oscars.  Great.  What else is new.  You get the highlights the following week and forget all about it. With one picture she brought the Oscars to Selfie Nation!  She brought each of us down to the front row of the Oscars, crowded by the likes of Bradley Cooper, Brad Pitt and Meryl Streep.  Ellen’s brand- if you-will- is the people’s celebrity; the goofy dance, kid-friendly, borderline cheesy, very likable personality that is always engaging with her audience.  She bridged the gap between fake-ass celebrity and the rest of us that work hard, have kids, and manage to eek out a good life for ourselves. Last week I ended my blog post on Employer Branding with the point that employer brand falls short if it doesn’t have social relevancy.  Content in recruitment marketing is crucial to creating a “buzz” around your employer brand.  If Ellen had tweeted a picture of someone presenting the award for Best Picture, or some actor giving his acceptance speech, pssshh- never would’ve gotten any attention.  But tweeting a selfie with all those stars gave us all access to the VIP. Access.  How is your employment brand accessible?  How are you conveying your employment brand in a fresh way.  Here are some recruiters and employers that are doing it fresh via Pinterest.  Check out the 5 Best Employer Brands on Pinterest. Creative?  Hell ya.  Visual mediums like Pinterest can really put a face to the name brand.  This is what the selfie does.  It humanizes the brand.  And what is a brand without its people? Perception rules.  What face are you putting on for your prospective employees?  Tell a story.  Ellen rocked it at the Oscars.  You can too, with smart visual content that tells a story and attracts the right talent to your organization.

“A company can no longer position, message and be done with it, because it’s no longer a one-way message.  It isn’t even a two-way conversation.  It’s an all-out marketplace of interactions, where recruiters, employees, customers and prospects are all listening to one other.  The company no longer holds the megaphone; the company is one among many participants.  The online social world has taken the brand from the hands of the Employer and put it in the hands of the Talent, both current and potential.”

Julia Markish talks about how today’s social landscape has turned a one-way message from the employer into a back-and-forth dialog among all.  Check out the full article here. Will your “Selfie” be boring and usual or chart-topping?
