Why Are You Emailing Me?

I’m so excited! Someone wants to hire me as a Lead UI/UX Designer for a startup company.  I’ve always wanted to work as a UI Designer for a startup but wait, I don’t have any experience and I’m actually not even in IT, I’m a recruiter.  Really people, recruiting firms train your people better. Recruiters, stop mass emailing or using a group from Linkedin to send everyone an email. Here’s just a part of the email I received this week: Hi Robye, Based on your background, I wanted to reach out as I feel you might be just the person xxxxxx is looking to bring onboard as the Lead UI/UX Designer. xxxxxxt is one of the largest startup companies and we are growing and need people like you to join our creative team. I took out the part of the company to protect the company. PS. if you are not looking to make a move we would give you $3K in the event you refer us the candidate that we end up hiring for this role. How nice, they even took the time to use my name and then continued to tell me about the company and even added a P.S. that I could get a referral fee in case I wanted to refer someone to them. I know we all get spammed by people wanting to sell us their products or services but for a recruiter to get job spammed for a development position, that just hurts. I’ve had developers tell me numerous times they get pinged for jobs on a daily or weekly basis telling them they would be perfect for a job in a field where they have no experience, but at least they are in IT. Trying to recruit a recruiter for an IT  job is just bad. I looked up the recruiter and she had only worked at the recruiting firm for just over a year, so honestly I blame the recruiting firm on this one. Fix your process and stop mass emailing people without actually taking a MOMENT to look at their titles. It’s not only annoying to the person receiving the email, it gives them another reason to complain about recruiting firms. Plus it really gives your company a bad name. I’ve talked with a number of people that have received emails like this and the one thing people do when receiving spam like this this is they remember the company it came from and they never respond to any emails or talk with anyone from these companies. I love recruiting and helping connect companies with people who want a job, but situations like this give recruiters and recruiting firms a bad name, so STOP IT. Don’t be so lazy.  Do your job the right way. Try searching and reviewing peoples profiles; take a few extra minutes and only email people with the appropriate background for the position you’re recruiting for.  It may just help you place the “right” person in a job.
