Why Vine Recruiting is a Good Idea

Social recruitment is today’s recruitment.  It’s hard to avoid it and if you leverage social media for your recruitment efforts, you’re more likely to have a further reach and connect with more people. Shiny-Vine What is Vine? Vine is Twitter’s social media video app that let’s you create and share 6-second video clips.  Simple.  So how do you tell effective stories in six seconds?  Well, that’s the challenge, and that’s what I love about it.  6 seconds really pushes the creator to share a story in a condensed time-frame  (FYI it takes a lot more than 6 seconds to make an effective Vine video).  If you only have 6-seconds to share your story, how and what do you want to share?  As you might have guessed, the clips get pretty creative.  As the great Einstein so eloquently put it,

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough.”

Why Vine? So why do you want to leverage Vine vs. YouTube or other video platform?  When done right, Vine videos capture the essence of your story in an incredibly direct way while powerfully promoting yourself in a funny, innovative way.  People are drawn to humor and creativity. What makes a good Vine? Like any social medium, good content is good content.  But because Vine is so limited, it forces the creator to be more creative in the delivery.  You’ll see that most Vines (the ones that grab you) are either funny or innovative or both.  That’s the beauty of this medium, it connects on a level that’s entertaining.  The supporting text can then link to a place with more valuable information.  Whether that be a link to a job listing, website, or even blog post.  Essentially it’s a 6-second commercial for something bigger.
